JULY
1, 2018: Each year the Upper
Arlington Alumni Association (UAAA) honors one or more grads
with the Outstanding
Alumnus Award.
An
Outstanding Alumnus is an alum (or group of alumni) who
has generously dedicated his or her time to the service of
the Upper Arlington Alumni Association and its mission. This
service can include volunteer time dedicated to the schools
or the community.
In 2018,
Charlie Groezinger, Class of 1968, was selected to receive
the 2018 distinction of UAAA Outstanding Alumnus for
his continued work on behalf of our UA community.
Charlie
has been a resident of Upper Arlington since 1953. He attended
Tremont Elementary, Jones Jr. High and UA High School, graduating
in 1968. Charlie then attended The Ohio State University,
before and after serving in the U.S. Army, majoring in Business
Administration and Computer Science.
Charlie
spent 30 years developing software for consumer goods and
factory automation, and for the last eleven years, he has
been the co-owner of SGO Designer Glass of Columbus with my
son. I am semi-retired.
Many UA
residents know Charlie because of his work with the Upper
Arlington Historical Society, an orhganization for which
he has served as president since 2011. He is also the Chairman
of the Legacy Projects Committee, UA Centennial Task Force.
Charlie is also a member of the Upper Arlington Citizen Police
Academy Alumni Association. Charlie currently serves as President,
National Board of Governors of A Special Wish Foundation and
is President of the National Association of the Remodeling
industry (NARI), Central Ohio Chapter. Charlie has volunteered
to work on The Class of 1968 reunion committees during the
fifty years since high school graduation. In his free time,
he enjoys golf and scuba diving.
Charlie
has been married to Colleen since October of 1996. He has
one son, Charles Jr. (Chuck), and two grandsons, Deacon and
Logan.
Charlie
was honored during the UA Alumni Association's UA Alumni Day
Open House, which was held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Upper
Arlington High School.
